1001. Q:
About Q&A 998- What is I did not eat one day, and the rest of the week eat healthy and exercise every rest of the day of the week?
A:
It would be only half as bad as if you didn't eat for two days. If you have a medical reason for not eating, that's one thing. But if your goal is purely fat loss, then starving yourself for whatever period of time is the wrong approach for all the same reasons I gave in Q&A #998.
1002. Q:
how many carbs can i eat
A:
Sorry, I can't possibly answer that question without knowing a lot more info about you and what you're trying to do. Even then, carbs would only be part of the whole story. The rest of your diet -- protein, fat, total calories, and especially the kinds of food you eat are all equally important. Check out my Nutrition article.
1003. Q:
Hey Mike, im the guy from 591. Question answered sep. 26th. since then ive been following the bulk workout plan we made as closely as i could. Back then i was around 200, saying my weighing was accurate, and this morning i weighed myself when i got up, and am arouond 204-205. Is this good so far?
A:
Sounds like it's going very good! You gained 4-5 pounds in 6 weeks or so. It's a little faster than the ideal rate (which is 1 pound every two weeks), but realistically it's about as good as you can do. I know you've already seen upper chest muscles growing and you should be seeing similar small changes for other muscle groups as well.
You should also monitor whether much of your weight gains are fat. At this point it should not be noticeable, but if at any point in time you start noticing excessive fat gains (like when your old pants stop fitting) you should stop increasing calories and stay at that calorie level till some of the new fat is gone. You could potentially even try to lose a few pounds then, but don't try to lose much weight or for long at your age. But anyway this is all in the future. For now you're making very good progress, congrats!
1004. Q:
Person form Q&A #998. Isn't it true if I don't eat for every other day for 4 days(like I said in my previous Question, that I can not gain the weight right back by just start eating very small portions and building up food intake gradually? I heard that's what mny friend did and it worked. It's ben 2 weeks and he hasn't gained a pound back.
A:
If you were to go on a starvation diet for a day, then yes, the best way to recover from it would be as you described. However you'd still lose a good chunk of muscle in the process and you'd still be setting yourself up for regaining the lost fat in the long term as well as reducing your chances of successful fat loss should you try to lose more than those four pounds.
1005. Q:
How do i get enough muscle to get the vains to pop out of my arms? Oh yah, do u have a gym or something? THANKS!!!
A:
Getting vascularity in the arms like that is not easy at all. It's a combination of low fat levels and good amount of time with heavy workouts (or other heavy physical activity) that enlarges your blood vessels over time. You can get the same effect ('the pump') temporarily by doing a good bicep/forearm workout, but it will only last an hour or so after the workout. To get to always be that way would take a few years of training.
I don't have my own gym (yet :), I'm just a personal trainer in Dallas, Texas. You might be confusing me with the gym chain called Mike's Gym Fitness -- I am not affiliated with them.
1006. Q:
I can grab and pull down the fat on my stomach and see my abs, so how do i get this fat off?
A:
You've hit on exactly the reason why it's not easy to get a six-pack -- it's because almost everyone has a good chunk of fat covering it up. Losing that stomach fat is the same as losing any other fat and I describe it in my fat loss article.
