Ask Mike Your Fitness Question:
1331. Q: Mike, is there a way to stop your gut from hanging out over your pants ? This is really embarrasing. Is all I have to do is lose weight?

A: Yes, all you have to do is lose weight. Keep in mind that there are many ways of losing weight and they will give you very different results. Crash diets almost always backfire and you end up gaining all the weight back. On the other hand, a balanced nutrition program combined with exercise (especially weight training) will give you excellent results. You can read my advice on how best to lose weight and fat here.
1332. Q: Mike, I have asked some previous questions, I have another questions. I am planning to lose weight. I'm 15, 220 lbs, male. I do not want to actively lose weight but just become more active to have a better condition. What do you think of my schedule for a new workout plan? One day Weight lifting (dumbels, pushups, crunches, situps, etc.) next day running + crunches pushups etc. (no weight lifting that day, and so on. One day weight lifting, next day running. I am hoping to improve my physical condition. I cannot go up a flight of stairs without breathing hard :(

A: That sounds like a great starter program for you! Take 1-2 days/week off to let your body rest a bit, but on other days alternate weights and running as you described. Don't forget to eat right too -- that'll make a huge difference as well. Good luck!
