720. Q:
i have a lil bit of a butt but i wont to lose weight what kind of foods help your butt get bigger
A:
It's going to be difficult to lose weight and make your butt a bit bigger at the same time. You would want to go on a fat-burning diet to lose the extra fat overall and at the same time on a heavy weight-lifting program that prioritizes lower-body exercises like squats, lunges, and deadlifts to put some muscle on your butt. Fill out Mike's Fitness Guide specifying 'Lose Fat' as your goal to get a complete diet and exercise prescription. Then alter the exercise routine slightly to add more of squats, lunges, and deadlifts. You can see what those exercises are here. Hope that helps.
721. Q:
How long do you think it would take me to lose 50 lbs. if I ran 1 mile a day and ate right(including fruits and vegetables)?
A:
You'll need to make more changes to your routine than just run 1 extra mile a day. The good news is that if you're willing to do it, you can accomplish your goal in 1 year AND keep the fat from coming back in the future! Please read this article carefully and then fill out Mike's Fitness Guide specifying 'Lose Fat' as your goal to get the complete diet and exercise prescription. Good luck!
722. Q:
how do get smaller nipiles my are bit big i want flat chest
A:
You can't change the actual nipple size through any kind of diet and exercise, but I'm willing to bet that you don't like the way your chest looks because of the extra fat under the nipple and not the nipple itself. That fat you can definitely lose through good diet and weight training which will achieve the flat chest look you want. Please read this article carefully and then fill out Mike's Fitness Guide specifying 'Lose Fat' as your goal to get the complete diet and exercise prescription. Good luck!
723. Q:
Hi Mike, just how much effect will smoking have on my gymming results, health and fitness, if i am doing everything else right?
A:
Depends on how much you smoke, but obviously the more your smoke and the longer you go on like that, the more damage you'll do to your health. You'll start running out of breath on cardio exercise faster and won't be able to recover between weight training sets as quickly or as fully. Finally you of course greatly increase your chances of cancer down the road. So it's your call as to your priorities. An occasional smoke or two with friends may not hurt you at all but if you smoke a pack a day you'll definitely do harm to your fitness progress and to your overall health.
724. Q:
I am 15 weight about 185 pounds and am 5ft 11in i really try losing weight i do basketball for about 70 minutes every day and do 50 dumbell bench presses, dumbell flies, 40 dumbell lunges and 75 crunches every week day but dont do the basketball on weekends. I have fat under the top of my arm, on my stomach, on my thighs and i have manboobs. i do eat as healthily as i can but i dont like vegetables. also i have just begun drinking 8 glasses of water everyday. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?!?!
A:
The biggest problem, as you may have guessed, is your diet. It's tough to achieve good health or high fitness level without some sort of veggies or another. They're the best sources for many vitamins and minerals and are also just about the perfect carb source for fat loss. Read the first 'Principles' part of my Nutrition article to learn how to eat right. Then you gonna have to suck up your dislikes of veggies and find some that you can actually eat. Focus on green stuff like broccoli, spinach, lettuce, green beans, etc. Structure meals around them -- chicken salad with olive oil, broccoli and brown rice with salmon, etc.
For your training you're already get a ton of cardio exercise with basketball which is great. For your weight training, read this article and restructure your program accordingly. Instead of doing many (15 or more) reps in a set with light weights, increase weights so you can't do more than 10-12 reps and then push yourself nearly to the limit (don't push 100% to the limit because a serious injury at your age can mess up your growth. At the very least, have an adult supervise you when training especially hard). Introduce more exercises for all the muscle groups -- right now you don't do any back or bicep work which can be fixed with pullups or bent-over rows. The weight training article has many program suggestions.

730. Q:
hey mike, i just notcied your new recommendations for things to try... why are you endorsing the bowflex? machines are inferior to free weights since you dont get the same type of movement, am i right? and at that price your could afford a several year gym membership.. also, have you ever read arnolds encyclopedia? that has tons of good exercises, and otehr good stuff
A:
Bowflex and other machines do have something to be said for them, though in general freeweights are superior, as you said. What a beginner gets with machines is greater safety and ease of you for home as well as lack of the 'gym' intimidation factor. Some people would rather just not go to the gym and/or use freeweights. Given that, machines are the next best thing. There's also less of a chance of injury with machines so beginners may feel more comfortable using them, especially without supervision of a trainer. Those are all reasons for my recommendation, not their value for the money. That's why I also say that it's more appropriate for beginner or intermediate lifters. There's nothing superior or inferior about Bowflex compared to many other machines, I just chose it as one of the best known ones.
For advanced lifters and, in general, for people who have no inhibitions or safety worries when it comes to freeweights, I completely agree with you -- freeweight are the superior choice.
As far as Arnold's Encyclopedia it is a classic and it has a ton of useful and inspirational info and pictures, but his recommended training methods would lead to overtraining for most people sooner or later. For somebody who has some experience lifting and who knows how to recognize and avoid overtraining, it's a very good reference, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.
