515. Q:
hey, i was wanting to take a daily dosage of 2tbsps of fish-oil and i was wondering if that would somehow get in the way of my losing weight since i know it is an omega-3 fatty acid.
A:
Go ahead and take it. Even though you're training to lose fat your diet should by no means be fat-free (take a look at my recommended sample diets here -- about a third of total calories come from fat). Healthy fats like fish oil as part of the overall diet are vital both for your health and for losing body fat.
The second thing to keep in mind is that there's absolutely nothing special about the fish oil supplement. You can get the same or better effects by simply eating salmon as part your regular diet. Salmon, as well as most other fatty fishes, is very rich in omega-3 fats. You can also use ground flax seed in your diet -- you can find it in the health section of the supermarket. Ground flax seed is rich in a slightly different variety of omega-3. Ground flax seed goes well with oatmeal (after oatmeal has already been cooked) or you can sprinkle it on salads, it has a nutty flavor.
