1539. Q:
hi mike im the guy from1533 i tend to eat alot after i finish what i do and im scared if i eat alot ill grow fat
A:
Don't worry about that -- eating generously after exercising is extremely unlikely to make you fat. Just make sure you eat healthy stuff and not junk.
1540. Q:
hi mike im the guy from 1533 , i kinda forgot to add this in another part so anyways i should not do those kind of exercise everyday am i right, i need to have at least 1 day break to recover
A:
Yup, that's a very good idea to take a day or two (or even more, especially if you do heavy weightlifting) off each week to let your body recover.
1541. Q:
Hi Mike. When doing diet to lose some fat can i do some cardio in order to burn lets say 250 calories and eat 250 calories more? Can i do the opposite? In other words should i count the calories from cardio to my diet?I have been told that in order to lose fat its better to do both. But if i lose 250 calories from cardio and 250 from eating less calories(250+250=500!)then i will lose more than one pound a week. What i should do?Should i count cardio or not in my daily calories?
A:
My recommendation is to not add/subtract daily calories, but instead eat basically the same every day, pick you training program (both weights and cardio) and just monitor your weight. Then you adjust the daily amount according to how your weight changes. I explain it in Q&A #1534: if over time you find that you lose weight too quickly then you slightly increase how much you eat daily and if you don't lose weight fast enough then you decrease it. This way you don't need to worry about keeping track of your daily calories and cardio. This is both practical (no need to adjust diet daily) and actually makes sense because your body is a very complex system and exercise you do one day will have metabolic effect in the following days.
1542. Q:
Mike, I have read that for people ingesting large amounts of protein (like 1 gram per pound of body weight) should be sure to drink plenty of water. How much is enough? Is the recommended 64 oz. per day enough?
A:
Yes, I think 64oz is a good target for daily water intake. If you like drinking water and drink even more than that, that's perfectly fine too.
1543. Q:
Mike i have a problem with my back and this week i wont go to gym at all.The previous week i didnt get also cause it was rest period after 2 months of continuus heavy whole weight training. In order to keep my muscles and not gain any fat should i eat more or less this week.Maybe i ll need another week rest after this one also.Should i reduce my calories or not?
A:
I probably would not change calories at all, even if you take the whole three weeks off. If you do gain fat it will be a miniscule amount and you'll lose it easily once you restart weight training. If you really really want to optimize it, you can maybe drop 200 calories daily in the third week, but I honestly wouldn't worry about it at all and just keep diet as is. You're doing the right thing by letting your back recover -- good luck with it!
1544. Q:
is it ok that that when i handle heavey stuff the vains pop out of my arms...(i am 13)
A:
Yup, that's perfectly natural and normal. When you perform intense physical activity, the blood flows to and from the muscles doing the work increases filling up the arteries and veins. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the muscles allowing them to do work and carries back the 'waste' products of muscle metabolic activity. The effect is usually most visible in forearms/hands where the veins are nearest to the skin.
