Ask Mike Your Fitness Question:
1369. Q: hey mike, ive been on your 5 day high velocity workout for a month and 1 week this sunday, and im gonna change. where can i find a good workout, im bulking right now.(im the 15 y/o puffy nipples guy. i bet you love that description:P)

A: I think you mean 'high volume', not 'high velocity' :) The word 'volume' refers to the number of sets you do in one week: the more sets per week, the higher the volume of the program. I have several different workouts in my weight training article and you can pick from any of them. Alternatively, you can get the book I have linked in my recommended products bar near the top: Baechle and Earle's 'Fitness Weight Training' for a number of programs.
1370. Q: hi mike im the 1363 and the 1366 guy you know my exercise and diet and i do weight training every sat and sun im lean but i have a fat face am i doing the right thing to lose it

A: You are lean already and any extra appearence of fat on your face will go away as you age and your body continues to mature. There is nothing more you can to speed that process up. Just keep on being active and eat right and the face fat will take care of itself with time. Just do NOT try to lose weight because it won't accomplish anything and may mess up your growth and development.
1371. Q: Mike, about a week ago i sent you my eating routine. you said i needed more fats? which kind of fats are good, which arent? where can i find the 'good' fats at? is peanut butter a good fat?

A: Check this for healthy fat suggestions. I think I also included them in my reply email.
1372. Q: In order to lose the last bit of belly fat and obtain 6pack do u have to bulk up first? If u dont have muscles can u obtain 6pack?How the whole thing works?I ve heard that ppl do buck up first and after cutting.

A: That's correct. As you lose weight and fat your metabolism decreases too, often running out of steam before you get the six-pack. At that point further weight loss is very difficult and/or only causes you to lose muscle rather than fat. So a good approach to trying to get the six-pack is actually first to bulk up and add some muscle and then 'cut up' using the new extra muscle to maintain high metabolism hopefully long enough to see the six pack. You can read more about it here.
1373. Q: Is bread bad for our health or just useless?I mean small amount of it each day.

A: I'd say that white bread is bad for your health. It and foods like it are most responsible for increase in type II diabetes in the US. Whole-grain breads are much better and I certainly wouldn't say that they are bad for your health. But if your goal is specifically to lose fat, then even whole-grain breads are not the best choice of food, though can be OK in small amounts. Needless to say, white bread is never a good food choice.
1374. Q: How i will drop my body fat percentage under 10% so i can reveal my six pack? What exactly should i do?

A: You need to lose overall body fat by the most efficient way possible as I describe in my fat-loss article. Please read it carefully, twice if you have to. Also read the weight training and nutrition articles it references. After that you should have a very good idea how to eat and how to exercise to achieve best fat loss results. Then you can fill out my fitness guide to get your started program (along with instructions on how to customize the diet for your own tastes). Getting to below 10% body fat is not easy (especially if you are starting out with average or worse physique), but most young guys can do it with enough time and discipline by following a good program. Good luck!
1375. Q: Hey mike, i am 13 and i just did about 200 pushups yesterday(in sets of10 to 20 depending on how tired i am) and was wonderin if i should i do more. Also if you have any other ideas on wat i can add on to this, that would be great. THANKS!!!

A: Good job with those pushups! I can help you but you need to tell me what are your goals? Are you trying to build overall strength? Are you trying to just get good at doing as many pushups as possible? Are you trying to lose weight? My advice to you has to be based on your specific goals. If you are just looking for a general fitness/strength program you can do at home, check out this training program.
1376. Q: Hi mike.I noticed after skiing my calfs and legs hurt, is skiing an exercise?

A: Sure! Skiing, either cross-country or downhill, is a very good exercise!
1377. Q: reply to 1369, ive often heard you say that you should take a week off after a schedule, is that necesarry? is there any online schedules i can go by? i dont have money for books

A: Taking 1 week off after 2 months of training is an extremely good idea for just about anyone following any kind of program. As to where you can find training programs, there are a ton online but they are of varying quality -- many are good and many are not so good. I have quite a few programs in my weight training article and they are all an average person would need as far as weight training and strength training.
