Ask Mike Your Fitness Question:
637. Q: Mike, sorry for another question, but in 591 i posted my workout sched, is 3 rest days a week to much if im trying to bulk? im trying to rewrite a schedule so i have chest/triceps on the weekend when i have more energy, and it just seems like im getting to many rest days

A: 3 rest days a week is perfectly fine, don't worry about it. Remember that the actual growth happens outside the gym, not in the gym. You have to give your body time to recover and grow. 3 rest days is good.

643. Q: i am living in nigeria and i can,t seem to have asses to all the things you mentioned in your dieting articule so what sort of diet do you think i should be taking over there in contrast to what you mentioned in your articule

A: Unfortunately I have no way of knowing what foods are available to you. If you basically have no choice in food you eat, then the best thing you can do to lose extra fat is, of course, exercise and then eat less of those same foods. Cut your portion sizes down by 20% or so.
644. Q: i do eat rice alot,in fact there is hardly a day i don,t eat rice so i want to know wether that,s what have been making me grow fatter

A: White rice can definitely be a fattening food over time. It alone is unlikely to make you fat unless you really overeat it. But combined with a sedentary lifestyle and/or other junk foods and sweets all of that will make you fat. Try to cut down on white rice, definitely cut out sweets and other junk, and start exercising.
646. Q: is true that the best way to lose weight is by eating less naturally and exercising

A: That is most certainly true. There's a lot of detailed advice I can give on exactly the kind of diet and exactly the type of exercise, but in general it does certainly come down to eating less, eating natural foods, and exercising.
647. Q: How many times should a person workout?

A: Anywhere between 2 and 5 times per week is good. If you count cardio workouts too, then up to 7-8 times/week total (weights + cardio). You can find more info and some sample weekly workout programs in my Weighttraining article.
648. Q: How much muscle is a person sappose to gain after six months

A: If you're a beginner, young male, and do all the right things diet and exercise-wise, you can reasonably expect to gain 15 or so pounds of muscle in the first 6 months. See Q&A #94 for more info.
649. Q: How long does it take for sit ups to start having a strong effect. I do about 150-200 a day? Also, good diets/lifting programs for gaining decent size muscles.

A: Doing sit ups alone will do pretty much nothing for you, no matter how many you do. The only thing you will get is good abdominal strength/endurace. But you will not lose extra weight/fat by doing them and you certainly won't get a six-pack. It's a myth that sit ups will give you good-looking abs -- it won't happen. If you're serious about getting results, whether to gain muscle or lose fat, you need a complete diet + exercise program that works all the muscle groups of your body, not just the abs. You can get just such a program by filling out Mike's Fitness Guide. You may also want check out other articles on that page. Good luck!
