Hi everyone! My name is André and I'm from South Africa. I'm super excited to get to know you all. So, my story... I'm 24 years old, 5'7" and currently weight 74 kg. I'm looking to lose some weight, but I can't go to the gym because I'm currently studying in France in a small town and there is no gym here. Further, I can't do much running, cause I get shin splints. I'm really watching what I'm eating, but I know that calorie restriction alone won't give me results. So, any advice?

If you can't run, then take brisk walks, take stairs instead of elevators (or lifts, or whatever you call them), do yardwork, do squats with filled milk jugs, just be creative.

Welcome, Andre! As others said, you should still be able to make good progress without a gym and without much running. The key is to eat healthy, staying as active as possible, and using your own body weight to provide resistance in exercises.
Make sure to read http://www.mikesfitness.com/article_nutrition.php to learn about eating right and start with http://www.mikesfitness.com/article_weightnoequip.php for your exercise program (you will need to get a pullup bar or find some place to do pullups -- often you can even find a tree branch to do them). You can do this program as often as daily or certainly at least every other day. If and when most of these exercises become too easy for you (when you can do more than 20 repetitions in a row) it'll be time to increase the difficulty or get some dumbbells for extra resistance. But for now it should be good enough.
If you post back with your diet plan I should be able to give you some feedback on it. And feel free to ask any other questions as well, of course. Looking forward to your progress!
