Seeing a doctor or a physical therapist about an injury is never a bad idea (especially if you can afford it). If not, and you're really itching to get back to the gym, make sure you start very cautiously. Spend the first few sessions with lower weights and fewer reps than usual (nowhere close to failure) until you are sure that the injury is healed. Be extra-careful with the exercises that work the injured area -- with lower back injury that means pretty much all core or lower body exercises: squats, deadlifts, lunges, leg press, crunches, etc.

mike you think its a good idea to do that strength program of yours and maintain my weight? think it would be safer, and then im gonna decide what to do next.

Good question. Normally, I would say yes because the strength program is much less demanding on the muscles and joints(at least in the first few weeks) than regular to-failure lifting. But you had a lower back injury and two thirds of the program directly work that area (deads and squats). So I would only do it after you've either seen a doctor or physical therapist and got the OK to proceed, or at least spend a week doing bodyweight or very light weight lower body exercises to "test out" how well the injury has healed. If you get any symptoms in the lower back at all, I would wait it out.
