17 Year Old, 5 Foot 8 Inches, 210 Pounds
Q: I'm 17 years old...i weigh 210 and im about 5'8...i would not say i am obese(from looks) but i am not ripped...i'm also not a butterball turkey. i'm simply overweight and i would like to tone up...do you have a diet plan or exercise plan i can follow to see the best results?
A: Certainly! First thing is you need to learn a little bit about both diet and weighttraining -- please read this and this.
For diet, you'll need to eat around 2500 calories split over 6 meals every day. You can come very close to that by simply following this diet plan and adding another meal to eat by duplicating its meal #2 (for 6 meals total: 5 meals in the plan plus another meal that's the same as the meal #2 in the plan). You won't be able to eat exactly this every day, of course, but this should be your goal as far as diet and you should try your best to stick to it.
For weightlifting you can choose any of the programs I include in the weighttraining article that you read. I recommend the 4- or 5-day split ones, but any one will do. Switch weighttraining programs every 2-3 months.
If you are already active, then don't worry about doing separate cardio. If you're not active, you may do some jogging or running 2-3 days per week, 20-30 minutes per session.
That's it! Aim for weight loss of 1-2 pounds/week (the slower the better actually). If you're not losing weight fast enough, then decrease your portion sizes slightly. If you're losing weight too fast (which is NOT good), increase portion sizes slightly to slow it down. Come back and ask any questions as needed. Good luck!
