Can Fruits And Vegetables Make You Fat
Q: hi mike i wanna know if fruits and vegetables have calories and if they make you fat.
A: Fruits and vegetables definitely do have calories but they are some of the healthiest calories you can eat, especially when eaten raw or only slightly cooked in case of some veggies. It's basically impossible to become fat by eating most veggies, with the exception of potatoes and maybe corn. So please eat all the lettuce, spinach, broccoli, peppers, onions, tomatoes, carrots, etc that you can -- all of these are great for you and will never make you fat by themselves, as long as you don't cook them with too much oil or eat them with dressing (oil and dressing most definitely can make you fat in a hurry). Potatoes are perfectly fine in moderation too -- again, just boil them instead of baking or frying. Some boiled corn is fine too.
Fruits have a lot more calories than most vegetables (they're more like potatoes or corn in the calorie count), but eaten raw most fruits are very healthy and fill you up well so it's hard to overeat them. Eating several pieces of fruit per day is perfectly fine and will not make you fat by itself. But do make sure to eat them raw and eat actual fruits instead of concentrated juice or dried fruit.
So while veggies and especially fruits have calories they are still some of the healthies food choices you can make, when eaten raw (or boiled in case of some veggies). They are extremely unlikely to make you fat, even if you eat a lot of them. Be more concerned with foods that come in packaging than the stuff you buy raw in the produce aisles.
