A: Beer is definitely one of the less healthy foods. Alcohol is very conducive to gaining fat and beer has extra carbs on top of that (regular beer more so than lite). But if the rest of your diet is good and you train hard you can certainly afford to drink a few beers once in awhile.
As far as alcoholic drinks, if you have to drink something go for something that has most of its calories be alcohol -- an ounce of alcohol from vodka will fatten you up a lot less than an ounce of alcohol from a margarita because the margarita will have a lot of sugar as well. Going by that rule of thumb, straight up hard liquor is your best choice, followed by wines (red wine has health benefits) and lite beers, followed by regular beers, and on the least healthy end are 'fruity' drinks like margaritas which can pack a ton of sugar and only a little liquor so you could easily consume a couple thousand very unhealthy calories in one evening.
