Drop From 15% To 8% Body Fat

Q: Summer is coming up here in 4 months and i want to get ripped for that. For that, i need to drop from 15 to 8% bodyfat. Can you give some ideas on nutrition and workout which will enable me to do so? Also, should i lower my carbs and keep the protein diet constant?

A: All the information you need to lower your bodyfat is here on my site: http://www.mikesfitness.com/content/how-to-lose-fat , http://www.mikesfitness.com/content/nutrition , http://www.mikesfitness.com/content/weight-training . Unfortunately there are no good shortcuts to help you lose bodyfat even faster. You could try to lose weight faster than I recommend (about 1 pound weight loss per week is my advice for most people) by eating fewer calories or doing more cardio, but it's just as likely to backfire as it is to help.

Going very low-carb may help somewhat -- it is not actually any more effective than a regular diet in lowering your body fat, but it does help retain less water weight in your system which makes you look leaner than normal. I talk about this in http://www.mikesfitness.com/content/how-to-lose-weight . This effect is temporary, but it may help you anyway.

In general, dropping body fat from 15% to 8% in just 4 months is unrealistic for most guys. Unless you've had very low body fat your whole life, once you get down to somewhere between 10% and 15% bodyfat it becomes much harder to keep making progress. Going from 25% to 15% bodyfat will be much easier and faster for most people than going from 15% to 10%. So I would advise setting a more realistic goal, such as maybe getting down to 12% body fat in 4 months -- even that would be very good progress. And if you post back with very detailed diet and workout plans that you are currently following I will be able to give more specific advice.
