Eat Only Protein

Q: Just one thought. We are getting fat from eating lots of carbs and fats.If we could eat only protein but more calories than we need to consume each day in order to maintain our weight would we get fat also?

A: Yes, it's possible to get fat from eating too much protein, though it's more difficult than overeating carbs or fats. But there's a bigger problem with that plan -- a protein-only diet will likely kill you sooner or later!! Along with calories we get numerous vitamins and minerals from carb- and fat-containing foods. Without these, we'd have all sorts of health issues. And I do not recommend relying on synthetic vitamins/minerals to provide what your body is designed to get from real foods. Also, in order to maintain your weight you would have to eat a TON of protein which would place very high stress on your kidneys. Protein-only diet will not provide the type or amount of energy your body needs for normal functioning, so you will feel very hungry, tired, and weak. So overall, it's definitely not worth trying, especially since it's in no way necessary or particularly helpful for successful fat loss.
