Exercises For Torso, Legs, Arms, 5 Sets Of 10 Reps

Q: Hi mike, i'm the guy from question 3122, for the arms, i do a total of 6 exercises, for the torso i do a total of 8 and for the legs a total of 4, each exercise doing 5 sets of 10 reps each.

A: In that case you are actually doing fairly high volume: 18 exercises with 5 sets each is 90 sets per week. That is still perfectly fine, of course. But, as I mentioned in my last reply to you, after a couple of months you will want to change up your program. Since right now you are doing high volume and not very intensity (5 sets of 10 reps means you must not be coming close to failure on the first few sets -- otherwise you wouldn't be able to maintain the 10 reps strength for all 5 sets), for your next program you may consider going heavier, to failure and with much fewer sets -- no more than 30 total sets per week, every set to failure, longer rests between sets, and using weights heavy enough to reach failure in 5-8 reps every set.

Again, remember that there's no single perfect program. You will obtain best results by using several different programs throughout the year which present different types of challenges to your muscles.
