Get Rid Of Bulging Muscles

Q: i used to exercise excessively but i want to reverse the muscles formed. how can i get rid of bulging muscles especially on my arms. i am concerned because i happen to be female but now i look more like a man.

A: First off, make really really sure that the excess bulk on your arms is muscle and not fat. It's extremely difficult for most women to build up a lot of arm muscle mass even with diligent exercise. But it is very easy to build up upper arm fat which can create bulky appearence by overlaying the muscle with a thick layer of fat. If when flexed the mass is hard, not jiggly and nearly impossible to pinch then it's really muscle. Otherwise it's probably just excess fat.

If it is excess fat, then you'll want to approach losing it the same as any other fat loss as described here.

But if it really is extra muscle and you really want to lose it, your best option is low-calorie diet combined with lots of cardio and NO weight training. It will result in overall weight loss, of course, but also will burn up a lot of the muscle mass since your body will have no 'reason' to maintain it (weight training would encourage your body to maintain muscle mass, that's why in your specific case you don't want to do it).

But again, make very sure that it's really muscle that you are trying to lose. The approach I described above will depress your metabolism and will make you regain the weight and fat in the long run (without the extra muscle). If excess muscle really is the problem it will be exactly what you want, but if your current problem is actually excess fat (which I strongly suspect it might be) then this will only make it worse. So be very sure of what you are trying to lose, fat or muscle.
