High Protein, Low Sugar Meal Replacement Bars

Q: What do you think about those high protein/low sugar meal replacement bars? Like the Pro42 Bar...it seems promising!

A: If you can eat 'real foods' instead of bars, do so. Like I said in my Protein Supplements article, protein bars are notorious for using questionable FDA regulations to their advantage. In Pro42's case, they pack 30+ grams of glycerine into a bar, but don't have to declare it as sugar. Plus some of the protein is the lower-grade collagen protein instead of quality whey. If you're constantly on the road and simply cannot have a normal meal, then use bars but otherwise eat real foods.
