High Volume Training After Time Off

Q: Mike I am not going to be able to use the gym for nex month or so. I wanted to know if I should jump back into high volume training when I am able to use the gym again. Also what can I do to limit muscle and strength loss while I unable to go to the gym. I have been trining for a little over a year and just had four weeks of your 5 day high volume training. I am 23 yr old male. Thanks mike

A: Yes, it should be fine to pick right where you left off with high volume after you return. Expect to get extra-sore the first week, but after that it'll be back to normal.

To minimize muscle loss while you are not working out make sure you eat enough to not lose weight. Some strength loss is unavoidable because strength is dependent on continuous practice. But once you get back to the gym your strength level will return to normal after 2-3 weeks (assuming you don't lose any weight.

Another thing you can do, assuming you are not sick or injured, is to do bodyweight exercises while you are away from the gym -- check out this program.
