Is Hydrolysed Whey Worth It

Q: Hey Mike. Just wondering on your opinion on Hydrolysed whey. Is it worth spending that extra bit of money? or should i stick with a wpi?

A: I haven't seen any reputable articles that indicate that hydrolysed whey is superior to the commonly used whey isolate. Unless you are able to get a great deal on hydrolysed whey, I would just stick to whey protein isolate (wpi).

To repeat what I've said many times before on this site, looking to optimize supplements is a waste of time and money for most people. If you have trained for many years and are far stronger and more muscular than an average person of your age, height, and weight then it makes sense for you to start looking into supplements more closely since any progress becomes extremely hard to achieve at that point so even a tiny edge from supplements may be worth it. But if you've only been training for a year or two then don't bother with supplements -- focus on making your diet and training as good as they can be instead.

Whey is a convenient source of protein when you don't have time for a regular protein-rich meal. But that's about it -- it's just another way to get your daily protein. There is no evidence that whey is in any way superior to regular protein-rich foods with the only possible exception being post-workout meals. In some ways regular foods are superior to whey since in addition to protein they provide many other minerals and vitamins. And all the hype about BCAAs or individual aminos like glutamine or hydrolysed whey providing superior results is just that -- hype.
