Is Using Just Dumbbells Sufficient

Q: Hi mike, do you think by just using dumbbells alone are sufficient enough for weight training?

A: Yes, it's possible to get very good results from dumbbells alone. The key is to have several dumbbells so that you can do a variety of exercises for all your major muscle groups with dumbbells that are sufficiently heavy (which means, roughly, that you can only perform any given exercise for only 12 or fewer reps -- times in a row -- before physically being unable to perform another rep without a short rest).

If you only have a single set of relatively light dumbbells meant to do bicep curls and try to use those same dumbbells for all other exercises your results will not be nearly as good as if you have two or three or four sets of different dumbbell weights which provide challenging weights for exercises like dumbbell squats, shoulder presses, bent-over rows, chest press and others.
