Replace My Fat With Muscle

Q: i am 14 and want to replace my fat with muscle how do i do it?

A: At your age it's actually quite easy to do as long as you have a little patience and discipline. Your body naturally 'wants' to be quite lean during teen years -- plenty of muscle and little fat. So as long as you work with your body and not against it, losing fat and gaining muscle is quite easy.

What it will take however is eating right (this is BY FAR the most important thing at your age), allowing a year or two for the transformation, and staying reasonably active in the meanwhile.

Start Adding Fat Instead Of Muscle

Q: This is a long question but please bare with me. I am 15 years old, weigh about 132 pounds and am 5 ft9. I weight train 4 days a week and do some other fitness activities. Mon + Wed I do arms, back, abs + shoulders and on Tue and Thur I do mainly Chest (bench press) along with shoulders, legs and abs .I used to be overweight and am not sure that if I go back to 2000+ calories a day wheather I will start adding fat again insted of muscle (I know that I probly won't because of the amount of exercise I am doing but something keeps telling me it may be a bad idea.

How Many Calories Do You Burn Doing Jumping Jacks For 15 Mins

Q: how many calories do you burn doing jumping jacks for 15 mins

A: Doing jumping jacks for 15 minutes would burn around 150 calories or so. However I would advise NOT counting calories if you are looking to lose fat and weight, but instead following a complete weight-training, nutrition, and cardio program that will not only burn calories through exercises but also boost your metabolism to make sure you burn more fat around the clock just by going through your everyday routine. Please read my fat loss article to learn how.

How Drinking Alcohol And Smoking Affects Health

Q: I'm not advocating the following but I would like your opinion. If someone is active lifting heavy weights and doing a moderate amount of intense cardio, but eating lots of red meat, drinking lots of alcohol and smoking how will it affect their health exactly. Lots of young people can get away with eating whatever, drinking too much and even smoking(up to a certain age) without putting on weight and other health problems etc.

What Percentage Of Muscle Do You Lose By Starving

Q: What percentage of muscle do you lose by starving yourself

A: There's no way to give a simple answer to this since it depends on so many variables -- physical activity level, exact diet, current body fat levels, metabolism, health, age, etc. But all you really need to know is that unless you have a good medical reason to lose weight very quickly and/or to eat very very few calories, you'll get far better results in the long run by eating enough to lose weight slowly. It'll take a little longer but you'll be actually losing fat AND keeping it off afterwards.

Ride Bike And Then Do Weight Training

Q: i ride my stationary bike for an hour and then do weight training. is that good?

A: Certainly, that's perfectly fine. If you do heavy weight training (12 reps or fewer per set before muscular failure sets in), then all other things being equal I would recommend doing weight training separately from cardio or at least do weights before cardio. However if your schedule doesn't allow that or if you simply prefer to do cardio first, then that's fine too -- you'll still get very good results.

What Foods Are Bad For The Muscular System

Q: What foods are bad for the muscular system?

Lose A Lot Of My Fat And Gain Muscle

Q: hey mike im 16 years old, 5 ft 8 and 185 pounds, im a bit overweight and i started working out about 2 months ago. Since then ive been doing mostly weight lifting 2 or 3 times a week and a bit of cardio and ive actually gained weight. I eat about 3 meals a day; breakfast-a ham and cheese sandwich with mayo, lunch-usually chicken and rice, dinner-lean steak and vegetables. Is there anything you would reccommend for me to do different? My goal is really to lose a lot of my fat and gain muscle so what should i do? thanks for the help

Closer To Underweight Than Overweight

Q: You said on Question 2494 (13th November 2007) that at 5 foot 6 inches and 135 pounds that the man in question is nearer the underweight than the overweight range. According to the medical book I've got 135 pounds is 10 pounds above the underweight category and 15 pounds below the overweight category i.e. near the middle of the healthy weight category. I agree the man in question does not need to lose weight, but he is fair way above being underweight. I do realize that you can be a couple of pounds heavier with muscle yet look slimmer than someone of a lighter weight.

Work Body Part With 2 Days Rest

Q: Is it ok to work a body part 2 times a week with 2 days rest between each time i work it?

A: That should be fine. Virtually any reasonable program can be beneficial. Do your program for a couple months and then switch it up to something different. If the current program is, for example, light volume (50 or fewer total sets per week), your next program might be heavier volume but working each muscle group just once a week. You can check out my Weight Training article for some future program ideas.

Flatter Stomach And Toned Legs

Q: what do i do to get a flatter stomach and toned legs?

A: It simply comes down to losing excess body fat and nothing else -- please read my Fat Loss article to learn the best way to shed that unwanted fat.

Conflicting Advice On Weights

Q: I can't remember if I actually submitted this already last week, so ignore this if you already answered it. I'm a 27 year old male, 5'6", and just recently used weight watchers to get down to around 135 pounds (decided to do something once I saw myself hit the 150 mark, even if I wasn't really "feeling" it). For the last 4 weeks I've been getting into weight training--still locking down a routine. I've definately seen some minor gain already, which isn't too surprising considering my size and this being new, but I've gotten so much conflicting advice on weights and reps and etc.

Went From 230 to 185 Pounds

Q: Hey Mike, I started working out in February on your dumbell program, and I stopped in July (too much work for me to do). From February to July I went from 230 to 185 pounds (I'm 17). I haven't gained or lost any weight since probably July, but I'm still overweight. I've noticed a big difference in the way I look but with shirt off there is still a fair amount of fat. I'm about 5'10". How come, even eating unhealthy (cafeteria food, chips, you name it), I haven't regained weight? Have I permanently made my metabolism rise? What weight should I aim for?
