Use Same Weight For All Sets

Q: hi mike, erm i have a question, i have decided to weight train after two years, and i have gotten really weak. My question is, is it alrite if i do the same weights for all sets because. what i use to do was each set increase weight and decrease the reps. Because i find it hard to increase to bigger weights. E.g for bicep curls, 8kg,9kg,10kg,11kg,12kg thats how i would do it. So is it still effective if i cant increase the weight can i just stick to the same weight for the rest of the sets, until eventually i can able to do bigger weights.

At that time I weighed ~185 pounds with ~7% body fat at 5'6". Three and half years ago I injured my back rupturing three discs, ultimately requiring surgery 14 months ago. I went through some physical therapy for my injury and am clear to work out again. I immediately rejoined my local gym when my doctor said it was OK to work out as long as I limited stress put on my lower back.

14 Year Old With Type 1 Diabetes

Q: Hello Mike. I am a 14 year-old boy required to do exercise due to Type 1 Diabetes. My family is in a financial squeeze so I don't get to visit the doctor as often as I should. Considering that I have Diabetes, I am in a reasonably good condition at 5' 3" and at 102 pounds. I need to know a good exercise planned with cardio workouts, and weight training to keep me strong. I am also trying to lose a bit of excess fat on my belly. I have a small exercise machine that lets me exercise my biceps, my pectoral muscles, and thigh muscles. I do crunches and tricep workouts on the side.
