How To Lose Large Calves Muscles

Q: I have huge calves from playing sports A LOT... and now, it's to a point where I want to lose them.... how can I lose most of my calve muscles... but still be lean and toned if possible (even if it includes, long results)???

A: That's a tough one. Calf build-up from a lot of sports and/or running is pretty common, but I am not sure if there is an easy solution to lose those calf muscles. The only thing I can recommend is, of course, to become a couch potato and never use your calves again :) Well, OK, that's not really my recommendation. But at least don't work your calves any more than you have to. Take up swimming instead of other forms of cardio -- swimming won't work your calves nearly as much as land-based sports. If not swimming, then biking if you need some form of cardio. Biking uses calves less than running, etc. Just don't do too much mountain climbing while biking or point your toes down when pedaling -- both of those will make the calves work more.

The second thing you could do if you really wanted is lose a good amount of weight and muscle along with it. This is all too easy to do -- just undereat and don't exercise, but I really really really don't want to recommend doing that. There's no guarantee that it'll improve your calf appearence (they may still look large compared to the rest of your body since your body will get smaller as well). Plus losing muscle mass like that is a sure way to encourage fat accumulation later on down the road. So don't do this unless those big calves are absolutely ruining your life.

Wish I could be more helpful, but as far as I know there's no easy way of shedding just the unwanted calf muscle mass. Change your exercise routine and or lifestyle to not be on your feet so much. If you do find a solution to your calf problem I'd like to hear about it!
