Lots Of Reps With Low Kgs
Q: Hello Mike.I have recently started a program for some cutting. And i was told to do this:Begin weight training with an 20 mins warm up at brisk pace(like fast walking) and then lots of reps with low kgs and only 30 sec breaks through all sets. So,the whole training his way should last about 1 hour max(along with 20 mins warm up). This is supposed to burn a lot of calories cause its continuous as u let ur body rest for a little time only and then go on.I do this 2 weeks now and every time i finish this my body hurts and iam exhausted but i got used to it.My question is:Is this program correct in order to lose the last fat on me?(cutting face after the bulk up).
A: What you're doing is close to a whole-body cardio program. It can certainly be a part of a complete fat loss program, but I think it would be a mistake to rely only on it and not do more conventional heavy whole-body weight training. Cardio-type training burns calories while you perform it but has little long-lasting metabolism boosting effect. Heavier weight training on the other hand will not burn as many calories while you perform it, but it will force your body into burning a lot of calories AFTER the exercise is over when it repairs the muscle fibers your physically damaged by lifting heavy weights.
If you like your current program, you can certainly keep it for 1 or 2 days out of the week, but try to do more conventional heavy weight training on at least 2-3 other days. And as always, remember that a good diet is at least as important as a good exercise program in getting that last bit of fat.
