NESTA Certification
Q: I'm looking at getting NESTA certified to work part time as a trainer in GA. It seems to be a legitimate certification, and it would allow me to study at my own pace. What are your thoughts on NESTA certification?
A: Unfortunately I am not familiar with NESTA certification, so I really cannot comment on it specifically. I'd say the most widely recognized certifications are the National Strength and Conditioning Association's Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Bug again, that is not to put down NESTA or any other program -- I'm simply not familiar with them. If you are planning to start out part-timing in a gym, ask local gyms what certifications they recognize and/or prefer and make the decision based on that. Good luck!
