Right Thigh Bigger Than Left

Q: I have been working out very hard and often. I can see a change in my body. I'm small to begin with, so I am just looking to tone. My problem is that my right thigh is bigger than my left by a noticable amount and its never been like that. I found out recently I am gluten intollerant. Is it possible to only lose fat off one leg? I am very upset and no one seems to know what this is about. It sucks to have one pant leg tight and I'm a size 2! Please help.

A: Sorry to hear that but your situation is actually very common. More people than not have asymmetries like that in arms or legs. It's likely that one of your legs is more muscular (as opposed to having more fat) than the other causing this situation. Unfortunately there is no good solution for it. If you try to lose fat and/or muscle it's more likely that your body will lose off both legs equally so the problem will remain. The only thing you could try to do is exercise the smaller leg and not the larger ones by using exercises like one-leg leg press or squat machine and one-leg knee extension machine. This will not cure the situation quickly or completely but over a year or so it can help bring the two legs more in proportion with each other.
