Used To Power Lift, Want To Chisel Up
Q: Hey mike my name is marcus and i wegh about 215 im 25 and im 6 foot 2inches with a broad body frame. I used to power lift so i still have bulk from that but i want to chisel up the muscle i do have plz help. What do i do to get the quickest and best results?
A: As a former power lifter and still quite young you should have no trouble cutting down to low body fat levels. The only new thing that will be required from you is a good fat-burning diet. You will still need to lift as you did before -- combined with a good diet heavy whole-body weight training is the greatest fat burner I know of. You should also do some cardio (2-3 hours per week total at brisk pace),
But the main thing will be getting a good handle on your diet. First, make sure to read http://www.mikesfitness.com/content/nutrition to understand the basics behind a good fat-burning diet. Then you'd need to set up a diet plan for yourself. I would take http://www.mikesfitness.com/content/fat-loss-diet-2400-calories as the starting point and then substitute in equivalent amounts of other healthy foods and recipes as described in the Nutrition article so it's more suited to your taste. Or you can leave it exactly as it is.
After that it's just a matter of sticking to your diet plan and monitoring your weight to make sure you lose 1-2 pounds per week -- I wouldn't recommend losing faster than that because then your body will start burning muscle for energy instead of fat. If you find yourself losing weight too fast, then increase portion sizes in 1 or 2 meals slightly. But I would guess that the 2400 calorie diet I linked should be just about right for you to keep losing at 1-2 pound per week pace.
Hope that helped. Again, you are in great position to become as chiseled as you want to be -- it's just a matter of continuing to lift while getting a good handle on your diet.
